“There is nothing more difficult for a truly creative painter than to paint a rose, because before he can do so he has first to forget all the roses that were ever painted”. Henri Matisse
The Delbard Painters Collection is a series of brilliantly contrasted, voluptuous striped roses named after the Great French Impressionist Painters.
The Painters Collection was bred by the Delbard family, Georges and Chabert of France now trading in Paris. The nursery has a collection suitable for Australian Gardens although Delbard roses have been available since the 1950’s The painters series of Roses are named after great Artists and bring a brilliant addition of colours to the garden.
My collection includes the roses ~ La Vien Rose, Claude Monet, Camille Pisarro, Maurice Utrillo, Paul Cezanne, Pink and Intuition. At first sight of these unusual roses I did not like them but now I realise just how unique there stripped and speckled colours are.
There is something about the splashes of colour that is enticing and lushious. Many hours of enjoyment have come from growing initially the voluptuous Paul Cezanne (my absolute favourite) and La Vien Rose. Over time I have added to the collection and this year will plant Grimaldi, Henri Matisse, Edgar Degas and Alfred Sisley.
